Day-by-Day Programme

Departure from Moscow the evening before. We land in Zanzibar and head to a hotel in the historic centre — Stone Town. After check-in there's free time to rest after the flight and take our first steps around the island.

We set off on a tour of colourful Stone Town, with its rich history, narrow lanes and Eastern architecture. Then we visit Prison Island, home to a sanctuary of giant Aldabra tortoises — many of them more than a hundred years old.

We move to the Sunshine Marine beach hotel, set on one of Zanzibar's finest coastlines. We check in, relax and enjoy the warm ocean and white-sand beaches.

The coming days are devoted to a full diving program with dives on the island's best reefs. In our free time we relax on the beach, swim in the ocean and soak up the atmosphere of a tropical island. The program includes 10 dives in total — Zanzibar's reefs suit both experienced divers and those just starting out.

Early in the morning we fly from Zanzibar to Arusha and set off for Tarangire National Park — one of the best places in Tanzania to watch elephants, giraffes, zebras and other savanna dwellers. During the safari we enjoy a picnic lunch out in nature. In the evening we move to a cosy lodge in the Karatu area.

After an early breakfast we head to the famous Ngorongoro Crater — a unique nature reserve often called one of the best safari destinations in Africa. Here we have the chance to see the Big Five and many other animals in their natural habitat. After a picnic lunch we return to Arusha airport, fly to Zanzibar and continue home — arriving in Moscow on 11 January.

Useful Information

When we go. Early January is the warm season in Tanzania. In Zanzibar it's +30…+32 °C and the ocean warms to +28 °C — perfect for the beach and diving. On the mainland, around Tarangire and Ngorongoro, it's cooler thanks to the altitude, and the bush is green and scenic.

Visa. Tanzania requires a visa (around $50), most conveniently arranged online in advance or on arrival.

Currency. It's handy to carry cash US dollars; the Tanzanian shilling is also in use. Cards are accepted in hotels and larger establishments.

Time. UTC+3 — the same as Moscow, so no adjustment needed.

Health. Tanzania is a region where malaria prophylaxis is recommended. Consult your doctor in advance.
