Day-by-Day Programme

Direct Aeroflot flight from Moscow to Hurghada. Transfer to Port Ghalib. Board My Red Sea Explorer, meet the crew, and attend the briefing.

We leave Port Ghalib in the morning. The first dive of the week is a check dive on a coastal reef near Marsa Alam: we check weights, adjust gear and get used to the water. After lunch — a second dive at Elphinstone: a long narrow reef with sheer walls and plateaus at its northern and southern tips. 2–3 dives in total today. In the evening the yacht sets course for Daedalus — a night crossing in open sea.

Daedalus Reef — a massive reef formation 180 km south of the Brother Islands, in the middle of the open sea, with a lighthouse on the reef. Sheer walls on all sides, a plateau to the south from 28 to 40 m. The morning dive is at the northern tip — this is where hammerhead sharks patrol the blue. Then two drift dives along the eastern and western walls: reef sharks, schools of surgeonfish, groupers and trevallies. In the evening — a night dive in the shelter of the reef. 3–4 dives for the day.

Second day at Daedalus. At dawn we head back to the northern tip for the hammerheads — morning gives the best chance to meet a school. Then the southern plateau at 28–40 m and walls covered in soft corals and gorgonians. 3–4 dives, including a night dive. After dinner the yacht weighs anchor and heads south to Rocky Island.

Rocky Island — the southernmost point of the route, a small rocky island with sheer vertical walls and a jagged profile. Currents bring in pelagic marine life: sharks of all kinds, barracudas, trevallies and tuna. The walls are covered in diverse corals. Drift dives along the walls, 3–4 dives, including a night dive. Towards evening we move to the neighbouring island of Zabargad.

Zabargad Island — a mountainous island with a lagoon and surrounding reef. Morning — the walls and slopes of the outer reef with a great variety of corals and reef fish. Afternoon — a dive on the shipwrecks off the island and the coral gardens of the lagoon: calm water, turtles and schooling fish. The night dive is in the lagoon. 3–4 dives. Overnight the yacht sets course north, back to the coast.

The last diving day — 2–3 morning dives on the reefs near the coast: Elphinstone or Abu Dabab bay with turtles and dugongs — depending on the weather. After lunch we cross to Port Ghalib, rinse and dry the gear, and have a farewell dinner on board.

Transfer from Port Ghalib to Hurghada. Direct Aeroflot flight to Moscow.
