Day-by-Day Programme

Arrival in Casablanca. City tour of the 'white city' — the economic capital of Morocco. Hassan II Mosque, floating above the water. Corniche promenade along the ocean. Old town (medina): narrow alleys, riads, bazaars. Colonial quarter: Mohammed V Square, Sacre-Coeur Cathedral, Arab League Park. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Drive to Rabat — the political capital of Morocco. Kasbah of the Udayas with blue-and-white alleys and an Andalusian garden. Mint tea with a view of the Bouregreg river delta. Hassan Tower and Mohammed V Mausoleum with mosaics and royal guards. Chellah Fortress — Phoenicians, Romans, 14th-century necropolis. Lunch. Transfer to Chefchaouen.
Tour of the 'blue pearl of Morocco' — one of the most photogenic towns in the world, in the Rif Mountains. Quiet alleys, mountain panorama. Shopping: colourful blankets and woollen goods. Drive to Fez. Overnight in a riad. Optional: en route — ruins of Volubilis (UNESCO), one of the finest Roman-era monuments in North Africa.
Full day in Fez. The old medina: alleys, bazaars, caravanserais, artisan workshops. Al-Qarawiyyin Mosque and University. Moulay Idriss II Mausoleum. Bou Inania Madrasa — mosaics, carvings, stucco. Place Nejjarine. The famous tanneries — leather processing using medieval techniques. Jewish quarter Mellah: synagogue, cemetery. Golden gates of the Royal Palace. Panorama from the Marinid hills.
Long drive towards the Sahara. Stop in Ifrane — the 'Moroccan Switzerland': parks with lakes, chalet-style houses, ski resort. Atlas cedars and wild macaques. Lunch in Midelt. Ziz River gorge and valley. Switch to camels near the village of Merzouga — an hour-long ride to a Bedouin camp among white dunes. Luxurious tents with amenities. Moroccan dinner, Bedouin songs by the fire, starry sky.
Sunrise over the sand dunes. 'Fossil factory' — ancient fossilised remains. Town of Tinghir amid a palm oasis. Todra Gorge: 400-metre sheer walls, narrowing to just 10 metres. Dades River valley, town of Kelaat M'Gouna (rose cultivation). Overnight in Skoura.
Ouarzazate — 'Moroccan Hollywood.' The world's largest film studio: 'Lawrence of Arabia,' 'Gladiator,' 'Game of Thrones.' Kasbah Taourirt. Atlas Film Studios. Ksar Ait Benhaddou (UNESCO) — mud-brick fortifications on the caravan route. Drive to Marrakech via Tizi n'Tichka pass (2,260 m).
Majorelle Garden — vivid blue Art Deco pavilions amid exotic plants. Yves Saint Laurent Museum. Koutoubia Mosque (12th c.). Jemaa el-Fnaa Square: snake charmers, gnawa musicians, acrobats, henna artists, date and orange juice vendors. Labyrinth of bazaars: spices, babouches, fabrics, metalwork, carpets. Bahia Palace with mosaics. Free time for shopping.
Drive through argan tree plantations — Morocco's liquid gold. Women's cooperative: hand-pressed oil. Optional: wine tasting at a private winery. Essaouira — a charming oceanside town. Fishing port with colourful boats, Portuguese fortifications with towers and cannons, Jewish quarter, cabinetmakers' workshops. Return to Marrakech.
Free morning. Activities to choose from: self-guided walk, cooking class, vintage motorcycle ride, hot air balloon flight, excursion to Anima Garden. Transfer to Casablanca airport, departure.
