Day-by-Day Programme

Morning arrival in Tokyo (Narita Airport), met by the guide–tour leader in the arrivals hall. A short city trip to the ancient Narita-san temple and the main Shinto shrine of warriors, Narita-jinja. We visit a charming Japanese village with traditional architecture, stroll its lanes and experience a tea ceremony. For lunch we try the local delicacy — river eel. We move to the Boso Peninsula and check into a hot-spring hotel. Dinner with local seafood.
Tateyama Resort Hotel 4★
In the morning we head to the southern tip of the Boso Peninsula for 2 dives at the famous Shark Scramble dive site surrounded by sharks (optional program). Seafood lunch by the ocean. Then the ancient Nihon-ji temple complex: a Buddhist temple carved into the cliffs, a giant stone Buddha, stone arhats and figures in caves (UNESCO sites), and a climb up the mountain. In the evening — Kamogawa Seaworld marine park with an incredible orca show. A traditional Japanese dinner at the hotel.
Tateyama Resort Hotel 4★
Morning diving again — 2 dives in the open ocean off Tateyama, searching for large schools of fish and big groupers (optional program). After the dives, the unique sights of the Boso Peninsula: rice terraces and an unusual waterfall that has carved an arch in the rock. We arrive at the old Kururi castle, where we dress in samurai armor, immerse ourselves in the history of the samurai wars and can even cross swords. Then we cross to Tokyo via the Aqua-Line undersea tunnel with a stop in the middle of Tokyo Bay at Umihotaru.
Mitsui Garden Hotel Otemachi Tokyo 4★
A full day in the metropolis where ancient traditions sit beside cutting-edge technology. We begin with a shaded Japanese garden of dwarf bonsai trees, a pond with imperial carp and a tea house. Then the great Buddhist temple Senso-ji in Asakusa, the "Electric Town" of Akihabara, the world's tallest tower Tokyo Skytree, the Imperial Palace plaza, the Shinjuku skyscrapers, Meiji Shrine and the boutiques of Omotesando. Lunch at the old Tsukiji fish market. In the afternoon — the ultramodern Odaiba district with its giant robot statue and the Fuji TV headquarters, then bustling Shibuya with its famous crossing, and the city's showcase street — Ginza.
Mitsui Garden Hotel Otemachi Tokyo 4★
Transfer to Nikko National Park — a world heritage site where the harmony of nature meets architectural splendor. We visit the Japanese people's main shrine, the Toshogu Shinto complex — the residence of shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu, famous for its carving of the three monkeys "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil". In a traditional samurai village we learn sword fighting, discover the art of the geisha and watch a ninja show. Then we climb the serpentine road with 48 hairpin bends to Lake Chuzenji at 1,200 m and the 97-meter Kegon Waterfall.
Mitsui Garden Hotel Otemachi Tokyo 4★
We leave Tokyo across the Bay Bridge for the ancient capital of Kamakura. For lunch, real sushi at a local sushi-train restaurant. We see the Great Buddha of Kamakura, the largest bronze statue in the open air in Asia, visit the money-washing temple, a Zen Buddhist temple with a bamboo grove and rock garden, and the fox temple. A private tea house may be visited. Then on to the scenic mountain town of Hakone and a beautiful lakeside temple. Check into a hotel with a hot spring (onsen), thermal baths and a traditional dinner.
The Prince Hakone Lake Ashinoko 4★
Discovering Hakone: a drive through the national park and along Lake Ashinoko with views of Mount Fuji (weather permitting). By cable car we ascend to the Owakudani geyser valley, where you can try black eggs boiled in a hot spring. We move on to Atami and its mountaintop samurai castle overlooking the ocean, and walk the Mishima Skywalk suspension bridge. Lunch at a colorful seafood restaurant, a walk along the suspension bridges of the scenic Jogasaki coast and a climb to the crater of the dormant Omuro volcano. A stop in Shimoda — the town of the first contact with Commodore Perry in 1853.
Shimoda Tokyu Hotel 4★
Morning diving off Mikomoto Island with the main goal — hammerhead sharks: 2 dives at a site known for large schools of hammerheads year-round (optional program). Then we drive across the Izu Peninsula and see the famous Seven Waterfalls of Kawazu, where you can bathe in a hot spring right beneath a waterfall.
Shimoda Tokyu Hotel 4★
Morning diving at the Kumomi site, famous for its dramatic underwater topography — over 20 arches and small caves — and large schools of fish: 2 dives (optional program). Then we take the expressway toward Mount Fuji. We stop at the impressive Shiraito Falls ("Fuji's Hair") and at one of the five sacred lakes with a view of the mountain. Night in an authentic hotel near Fuji with a view of the peak and a hot spring.
Shoji Lake Hotel 3.5★
A drive along the slopes of Mount Fuji and its lakes with the best views. We visit a famous Buddhist temple with a pagoda and stop at Mount Fuji's 5th station at 2,300 m (if the road is open). We see a village of traditional thatched-roof houses. Then a crossing through central Japan to the unique "Black Heron" samurai castle in Matsumoto and to sacred Lake Biwa, the largest in the country. Night in the town of Hikone.
Grand Mercure Lake Biwa Resort & Spa 4★
In the morning we visit an authentic samurai castle built by the famous shogun Oda Nobunaga and take part in a tea ceremony in a tea house. Then we travel along the shore of Lake Biwa, one of the oldest and cleanest lakes in the world, stopping at the Temple of Longevity, where you can ring an ancient wish bell and descend a staircase of 808 steps. On to Kyoto and the start of our acquaintance with the old capital — the thousand torii gates of Fushimi Inari. An evening stroll through Kyoto and dinner at a traditional grill restaurant with marbled-beef steaks.
Miyako Hotel Kyoto Hachijo 4★
A full day in Kyoto — the country's capital from 794 until the end of the 18th century, which has preserved its atmosphere of hidden antiquity. We see the three main temples of the city: Kinkaku-ji (the Golden Pavilion), the Ryoan-ji rock garden and the Kiyomizu-dera temple of pure water. We explore the surroundings and the Hozukyo gorge, and spend the evening in a charming old district of traditional tea houses.
Miyako Hotel Kyoto Hachijo 4★
Transfer to Nara, famous for the deer roaming everywhere — the symbol of the city. We see its two most famous temples: Todai-ji with its Great Buddha (the largest wooden building in the world) and Kofuku-ji with its ancient pagoda. Time permitting — a secret cave temple in the mountains or a traditional Japanese garden. We return to Kyoto station and take the super-fast Shinkansen train to Tokyo (2 hours 15 minutes). A free evening in Tokyo.

Useful Information

Climate
October is one of the best months to travel in Japan: the typhoon season is ending, the air is crisp, and the momiji autumn-maple season begins. Air temperature +18–23°C, water temperature off the Izu coast +23–25°C.

Diving
The Pacific coasts of Boso and Izu — schools of sharks, hammerheads at Mikomoto, groupers and the underwater arches of Kumomi. Diving is paid separately as an optional program.

Visa
Russian citizens require a visa to enter Japan. Passport valid for at least 6 months.

Money and Plugs
