Hamanasi sits a mile south of Hopkins village, between the Maya Mountains and the Caribbean Sea: 45 acres of its own land, a thousand feet of beach and four natural zones — beachfront, littoral forest, pond and savannah. The family-run resort is built with ecology in mind: rather than clear the forest for new rooms, they built the rooms among the trees.

Two characters of accommodation. By the water — rooms and suites steps from the sea, with tiled floors, beds of Belizean hardwood and a hammock on the porch. In the canopy — freestanding treehouses raised about twelve feet off the ground, none with a neighbour above, below or beside it, surrounded by orchids, parrots and agoutis. The largest are the Deluxe Treehouses, with a living room, a jacuzzi on the wrap-around veranda and a shower with twin heads. No TVs and no phones in any room.

Diving is run in-house by a PADI 5 Star Resort operation with three custom boats from 34 to 45 feet. The Southern Barrier Reef is ten miles out, 30–40 minutes by boat — walls, sand channels and spur-and-groove inside the South Water Caye Marine Reserve, where few other divers go. Full days go to the atolls: Turneffe with its currents at The Elbow, Glover’s with the sheer Long Caye Wall and visibility past thirty metres, and Lighthouse with the Great Blue Hole and the red-footed booby colony on Half Moon Caye.

The other half of the resort is jungle. The Cockscomb jaguar preserve and a night hike through it, the Mayflower waterfalls, canoeing a forest river, caves, Maya sites, birding, ziplining and waterfall rappelling. The neighbouring village of Hopkins is Garifuna, with its drumming and its own kitchen.

Meals happen at the Singanga restaurant: Belizean and Caribbean cooking, produce from the resort garden, and a Thursday evening journey through Belizean cultures with live music. Continental breakfast comes with the room; everything else is à la carte or by package.

You pay exactly the rate the resort publishes. On top of that, only the actual bank costs of currency conversion and the international transfer — no commission of ours.

We run the deal

Correspondence with the resort, holding the room, the contract, booking confirmation and all paperwork are on our side. There is nothing for you to arrange yourself.

Card payment

We accept payment by card through Stripe and issue an invoice. The transfer to the resort is our job — you do not have to find a way to pay abroad.

The barrier reef trip runs almost daily and takes half a day — two tanks. Atoll trips are full days and go only with a minimum of eight divers and good weather. The Blue Hole has two profiles: 40 metres is for experienced divers who have already dived with the resort's team, everyone else goes to 18. Tanks, weights, belt, park fees, juice and cookies are in the price, with lunch added on atoll trips; gear is separate. Water is 24–30 °C year round, a 3 mm suit is enough. The nearest chamber is on Ambergris Caye, and the resort strongly recommends DAN insurance.

Breakfast 6:00–9:30, lunch 11:30–14:30, dinner 18:00–21:00. The continental breakfast — home-baked breads, fruit, eggs, granola, yoghurt, cheese, juice, coffee and tea — is already in the room rate. The prepaid package adds lunch and a three-course dinner, with service charge and tax included. Special diets should be flagged at booking: the resort is remote and supplies come in ahead.

The most spacious accommodation here: a separate living room with handcrafted furniture, an en suite bar area with dining table, mini bar and coffee maker, and a large bathroom with double vanities and a twin-head shower looking into the greenery. The bedroom is separate, the mattress organic. The wrap-around veranda carries lounge chairs and a jacuzzi, with birdsong all around.

The most popular rooms at the resort. Each treehouse stands about twelve feet up among the trees, orchids and birds, with no neighbour above, below or beside it. Beds are Belizean hardwood, windows louvred, ceiling fans overhead. The bathroom has double vanities and a shower with a five-foot window and a skylight. The porch has hardwood chairs and a hammock.

The two most romantic rooms on the property. A large bedroom opens into a sitting area with a sofa and chairs, the ceiling vaulted with exposed beams, the walls in soft tropical tones. The porch has hardwood deck chairs and a hammock with views to the sea through the leaves.

Steps from the water. Beds are handcrafted Belizean hardwood, louvred windows catch the cross breeze, and the tiled bathroom has room to spread out. The porch hammock looks onto the beach, the dock and the infinity pool — sunrise and sunset both land here.

Built for families and friends sharing: a room with a mahogany king bed and an adjoining room with two twins, each with its own door into the shared bathroom. The Great House, pool and beach are all close by, and the porch has a hammock.

Per person at double occupancy. The package covers the room, continental breakfast, lunch and dinner, the chosen adventures, return ground transfers from Belize City, a welcome drink, tax and service charge, plus tanks, weights and belt for diving. Adventures are picked on arrival: barrier reef diving and snorkelling run daily, inland trips on their own days. Atoll dives are an upgrade. Alcohol, sodas, gear rental and dive instruction are not included.

When to go

Best time: Year round, apart from the September closure
Water temperature: 24–30 °C year round

The weather resembles southern Florida, with slightly warmer winters and summers. April and May are the driest months. The rainy season officially runs June to November, but the bulk of it falls in September and October and usually at night. The sea is calmest in August and September. Winter brings occasional "northers" — overcast and choppy. Hurricanes are rare in Belize. The resort is closed 5–25 September 2026. Practical notes: bring DEET repellent and reef-safe sunscreen — ordinary sunscreen is not allowed on the property or on trips. There is no children's programme.

Getting there

International flights land at Belize City (BZE). From there it is about two hours to the resort on paved road — Hamanasi sends its own van. That is the fastest option and it comes with the Reef & Rainforest packages.

The alternative is a hop to Dangriga (DGA), 20 minutes in a 14-seat plane, then a 45-minute drive. Domestic connections mean longer, less predictable waits and luggage can lag behind, so keep valuables and medication in the cabin. If you plan the Dangriga connection, book the international flight to land by 16:00.

Renting a car is possible, but the resort warns about it: signage is poor, street lights are few, there are one-lane bridges and unmarked speed bumps, and roads flood in the rainy season. Driving at night is not advised.

On the ground: the language is English, power is 110 V with US sockets, and traffic drives on the right. The Belize dollar runs roughly 2 to 1 against the US dollar, and US dollars are accepted everywhere. The resort takes Visa, MasterCard and American Express, with 2% added for AmEx. Tipping is customary at 10–20%, though most rates already carry a service charge.
