Palau Siren is a 40-metre wooden phinisi schooner, built in 2012 on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi from ironwood and teak. The vessel was fully refitted in 2024. Eight cabins on the lower deck take up to 16 guests, looked after by a crew of 12 including three dive guides.
She was built by divers for divers. The dive deck is one of the most spacious you will come across on a vessel this size: every guest gets an individual station and a personal locker for small items, there are separate rinse tanks for gear and for cameras, and fresh-water showers right on deck. Diving is done from two high-sided fibreglass skiffs that drop the group at the site and pick it up after the ascent; the run from the vessel usually takes 5 to 15 minutes.
The air-conditioned saloon has a cocktail bar, comfortable sofas, a large TV with a film library and a book collection. A dedicated area is given over to the camera station: charging points with adapters (220 V and 110 V) and large storage boxes for equipment. That is why Palau Siren has long been considered one of the best choices in Palau for underwater photographers and videographers. Meals are served in the shaded open-air dining area, and the sun deck above has cushioned loungers. Massage is available daily.
Itineraries run year-round through the Rock Islands Southern Lagoon, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with a day at Peleliu: Blue Corner, Ulong Channel, German Channel, Siaes Tunnel, WWII wrecks and aircraft, plus Jellyfish Lake. Some departures are timed to the lunar cycle — the red snapper spawning aggregations at full moon and the bumphead parrotfish at new moon.

Many of Palau's channels run strong currents and a reef hook is essential — it cannot be rented, so bring your own or buy one on board. Spawning dives are suitable for experienced divers only. Rental gear must be pre-booked and is paid for on board. The crew speaks English.

The vessel's core itinerary, year-round, 7 or 10 nights. Departing Malakal Harbour, Palau Siren heads into the Rock Islands Southern Lagoon, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with a day at Peleliu. Three main diving areas: Ulong, Ngemelis and Peleliu. The programme covers Blue Corner hooked into the current, the drifts of Ulong Channel, the manta cleaning stations of German Channel, Siaes Tunnel, the Iro wreck and the Jake seaplane, Chandelier Cave and Jellyfish Lake. Up to 22 dives over 7 nights, up to 32 over 10. Suitable for all experience levels, but the channels run strong currents and a reef hook is essential.

Departures timed to the full moon, when thousands of red snapper (twin-spot snapper) gather to spawn and Palau's largest predators arrive to hunt in the middle of it. Very few divers ever see it. The cruise director gives presentations on the spawning and on how to photograph it beforehand. The rest of the programme is the same Rock Islands lagoon and a day at Peleliu: Blue Corner, Ulong Channel, German Channel, Siaes Corner, Jellyfish Lake. Some departures also offer blackwater diving at night over deep water. The spawning dives run in strong current and are for experienced divers only. The $240 spawning itinerary fee is already included in the price.
