M/Y Black Pearl is the largest vessel working in Palau: 48 metres, launched in 2019 and built to the International Integrity Stability Standard for yachts over 46 metres. Twelve cabins for 24 guests, departures from Malakal Port next to Koror, week-long and ten-night trips around the Rock Islands Southern Lagoon.
There are three cabin categories, all with a private bathroom and hot shower. Two Master Seaview cabins on the upper deck (301 and 302) are the roomiest, with panoramic windows and an armchair by the window. Four Seaview cabins on the main deck (201–204) sit next to the restaurant and also have panoramic windows; beds convert into one double or two singles. Six Deluxe Twin cabins on the lower deck (101–106) have two single beds and portholes. Every cabin has a TV, hair dryer, safe, USB sockets, a keypad door lock and an inter-room communication system; mattresses are latex, 200 × 210 cm, with Egyptian cotton linen.
Social areas occupy three decks. The main deck has a six-person whirlpool, an outdoor bar and lounge, and indoors a restaurant with panoramic windows and a coffee bar. The upper deck holds an indoor lounge with a TV, a business centre and a camera station. On top is the sun deck with loungers and sun beds, where the barbecue happens. There is a spa and a laundry service; kayaks and SUP boards are free and Wi-Fi is included.
The dive deck has anti-slip flooring, a dedicated camera maintenance table with a low-pressure air gun, separate rinse tanks for cameras and outside showers. Two nine-metre aluminium tenders carry 12 divers each. Nitrox is free, 12 L tanks take both DIN and yoke valves, and reef hooks, SMBs and GPS are included. Four dive guides for 24 guests.
Diving in Palau means diving in current, and that is the main thing to know in advance. Blue Corner, Ulong Channel, Shark City and Peleliu are drift sites with strong, unpredictable current. The operator recommends a minimum of 50 logged dives, an Advanced Open Water certification and a nitrox card; the cruise director may ask you to sit out a dive if conditions are beyond your level. Less experienced divers can book a private guide or take a course on board.

You pay the rate the operator publishes. The only thing added on top is the actual payment processing cost — no fee of ours.

Diving on board
Three guided dives a day plus one night dive, 12 L tanks, weights, reef hooks, SMBs and GPS are included. Nitrox is free for certified divers. A minimum of 50 logged dives, an Advanced Open Water certification and drift diving experience are recommended. A dive computer and an SMB are compulsory for every diver in Palau. The crew speaks English.
Food and drinks

The dive deck and the gear room are close by.
Schedule & Pricing
Best of Palau (Malakal — Malakal)
The vessel's core week-long route and the most frequent one in the schedule. Day one is boarding at Malakal around 15:00, a tour of the yacht and a safety briefing, with no diving. After that it is 3–4 dives a day: Sandy Bar, Ulong Channel with its drift and cruising reef sharks, Siaes Corner and Siaes Tunnel, Shark City. A separate day goes to German Channel — a pass blasted by the Germans in the early 1900s, where mantas come to the cleaning station at 18 metres. Then two days on Blue Corner, Blue Holes, New Drop Off and Big Drop Off: plateaus with strong current where jacks, barracuda and grey reef sharks hang in the blue. The programme includes snorkelling in Jellyfish Lake among golden jellyfish that have lost their sting. The last night is spent at anchor in Malakal Harbour, and diving finishes around noon the day before disembarkation — 24 hours before your flight.

2 departuresBumphead spawning on the new moon (Malakal — Malakal)
The same set of dive sites as the core route, but timed to the new moon, when bumphead parrotfish gather to spawn. Hundreds of big fish converge, males butting heads like buffalo and changing colour, rising from the sandy bottom towards the surface. Spawning dives start early, around 05:30, and the current can be strong — this is not a first-day-in-the-water dive. Trips run 7 nights, occasionally 9 nights with Peleliu and the Malakal wrecks added.

1 departureRed snapper spawning on the full moon (Malakal — Malakal)
This route is tied to the full moon: for four days ahead of it, red snappers aggregate to spawn off Peleliu and at the sites east of Koror, with bumphead parrotfish joining in. The aggregations are enormous, but so are the demands — strong current, early starts, dives from around 05:30. The operator states plainly that spawning dives need experience. The rest of the programme is standard: Ulong Channel, German Channel with its mantas, Blue Corner, Blue Holes and snorkelling in Jellyfish Lake. Usually 7 nights, some departures 9 nights.

A few departures fall outside the weekly pattern. The ten-night Best of Palau Special and Palau Spawning Special add what does not fit into a week: the island of Peleliu with its wall, its express drift and the WWII artefacts on Orange Beach; the wrecks of Malakal Harbour — the tanker Iro, Jake's Seaplane, the Chuyo Maru — plus Short Drop Off and Chandelier Cave with its air pockets and underwater tunnels. The five-night Best of Palau Experience is the opposite: a shortened option for those tight on time, covering only the key sites of the Southern Lagoon.
