Day-by-Day Programme

Group meeting at Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky port, introduction to the crew, safety briefing, settling into the yacht. In the evening — leaving the bay into the open Pacific towards the Commanders.
A full day at sea — crossing the open Pacific to the Commander Islands. Whale, dolphin and seabird watching from on board. Getting to know the yacht and the crew's stories about the route and the Commanders.
The heart of the expedition. Five days at the Commanders: landings on Medny (Glinka Bay, Preobrazhenskaya, Chyorny Cape), walks on Bering (Nikolskoye village, Northern rookery, Stellers Arch, Toporkov Island, the Aleutian museum), whale and orca watching from the yacht, meetings with the park scientists, the visit centre. The route is flexible — adjusted by weather and nature.

Medny is the only chance to see the Medny Arctic fox, an endemic subspecies with about 60 animals left. At the Northern rookery — fur seals almost within arm's reach, up to 280,000 animals per season.
Farewell to the Commanders, return crossing across the Pacific to Kamchatka. Wrapping up the expedition, sharing photos, final whale and bird sightings. Arrival in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, transfer.

Useful Information

The best window for Commander expeditions is mid-July to mid-September. This is the short northern Pacific summer, when whale activity peaks and the fur seal rookeries are at their busiest.

Air temperature stays around +8 to +14°C, often with fog, drizzle and wind. Water is around +6 to +10°C. Weather is changeable — you can see sun, fog, rain, calm and swell all in one day. The route is flexible: landings and crossings are adjusted by the weather, with safety always the priority.

The Commanders are a border zone and a national park. All permits are arranged by the club in advance, a passport is mandatory. Connectivity on the islands is limited — mobile Internet is only available in Nikolskoye.
