South Moon 1 is the new vessel of the Sea Queen fleet: a steel hull 30 metres long and 8 wide, built in 2024 and in service since 2025. She is the second hull to carry the name — the earlier 27-metre South Moon of 2004 is still in the fleet, but has no individual departures on sale: every 2027 date on her is full-boat charter only. The schedule, prices and cabins on this page are those of the new South Moon 1.
The boat is based in Sharm El Sheikh and sails from Travco Jetty. Ras Mohammed and the Straits of Tiran are only a few miles away, so crossings between dive sites are short and there is plenty of time left for diving and for lounging on deck.
There are eleven guest cabins and a maximum of 22 guests. Six Comfort cabins with twin beds and the queen-size suite are on the upper deck, four more twin cabins on the lower deck. Every cabin has air conditioning and an en-suite bathroom; guests get a shower towel, a hand towel, shower gel and hand soap. Two further bunk-bed cabins on the lower deck are kept for the dive leaders and are never sold — which is why the operator’s specification sheet lists thirteen cabins while only eleven can be booked.
Common areas are an air-conditioned salon and dining room in warm wood, two generous sun decks with mattresses and lounge corners, and a shaded bar on the main sun deck. The dive deck is large, with on-the-spot tank filling, two 265-litre compressors and a partial-pressure nitrox panel; the wide swim platform aft leads to two six-metre Zodiacs that run divers to the sites.
Worth knowing before you book: there is no internet on board at all — the operator suggests buying a SIM card at the airport, and even then coverage offshore is patchy. The 220 V sockets are in the salon and on the dive deck only; charging in the cabins is not allowed. On board it is cash only — euros, US dollars, Egyptian pounds and Swiss francs; credit cards are not accepted. Nitrox costs extra, while 12 l tanks and weights are included.
The main route is Classic North / Best of Sinai: Ras Mohammed, the Straits of Tiran and the SS Thistlegorm. The operator also runs Northern Wrecks (Abu Nuhas, Ulysses, Kingston, Thistlegorm), a route down to the Brother Islands taking in the Salem Express and the Giftun reefs, and the Golden Route north along Sinai — Nabq, the Million Hope, the reefs of Dahab, the Blue Hole and Gabr el Bint. You pay the rate the operator publishes. The only thing added on top is the actual payment processing cost — no fee of ours.

Diving on board
The formal minimum on Classic North is an Open Water Diver certificate, but the operator strongly recommends at least 20 logged dives, and at least 25 for the wreck route (the Northern Wrecks page asks for 30 dives and Advanced Open Water). The legal depth limit in Egypt is 40 metres; decompression and technical dives are not allowed on a regular trip, solo diving is prohibited and everyone dives in buddy pairs. Every diver must carry a personal dive computer and a surface marker buoy, and a torch on night dives. If your last dive was more than a year ago, you need a refresher course stamped in your logbook. Certification, logbook and a signed medical statement are checked on arrival; if anything is in doubt, a doctor's clearance is required. Diving insurance is not compulsory by Egyptian law but is strongly recommended — without a policy you sign a waiver. The last dive must be no later than 24 hours before your flight.
Food and drinks
Beer and espresso cost extra and are paid in cash. The salon and dining room are a dry area: alcohol is for the deck and only after the last dive of the day — a guide may keep you off the morning dive otherwise. Special diets and allergies should be reported when booking.

Classic North — Best of Sinai
The main South Moon 1 route: a week out of Sharm El Sheikh and back, around twenty dives, short crossings. Boarding from 18:00, the first night alongside in the marina, disembarkation on Saturday by 8 am. Day one is a check dive at Temple or Ras Katy, then Ras Mohammed or Beacon Rock and a night dive. Days two and three belong to the north: the Dunraven, Small Crack, Shag Rock with the Kingston, and two or three dives on the SS Thistlegorm — the most famous wreck in the Red Sea, her holds still packed with army trucks and motorcycles. Day four is Ras Mohammed National Park: the wall of Shark & Yolanda Reef with the Yolanda's cargo scattered on the bottom, Jackfish Alley, and the entrance to the Straits of Tiran at Gordon Reef. Days five and six are the Tiran reefs — Jackson, Woodhouse, Laguna, Thomas — and a final dive at Ras Um Sid with its forest of gorgonians. Night dives every day except the last. The order of the sites depends on the weather and on clearance from the maritime authorities.
