Sea Serpent Grand is the largest vessel in the Hurghada-based Sea Serpent fleet: 44 metres long, 8.5 metres in the beam, four decks, 14 cabins for 28 guests. The hull is white and the name is written along the side in script — «SeaSerpent Grand». She is a separate ship, not another name for Sea Serpent Contessa: that one is eight metres shorter and takes 24 guests in 12 cabins instead of 28. The fleet runs six hulls and Grand is the flagship.
The boat was built for diving rather than converted to it. The dive deck sits at water level and takes all 28 divers at once: individual benches, hangers and crates, two separate freshwater rinses for camera gear, and a stern platform with two ladders. Three compressors at 950 litres a minute and two nitrox membranes of the same output cover the whole group. There is also a helium and oxygen blending station with a booster pump — trimix and pure oxygen are filled on board and rebreathers are supported, which most Egyptian liveaboards cannot offer.
The layout is simple. The lower deck holds six twin cabins and two with a double bed, with the engine room aft. The main deck has the crew quarters, the galley, one suite, the dive deck and the platform. Above that is the sun deck: four cabins with large windows, the second suite, a bar with stools, and a teak deck with sofas and loungers. On top sits the fly deck with the bridge, a shaded lounge and a sunbathing area. Saloon and restaurant run the full width of the ship, in pale wood with panoramic windows down both sides.
Sea Serpent Fleet works on an all-in price: marine park and port fees, reef tax, fuel surcharge, boat and diving permits, airport transfers both ways, nitrox and Wi-Fi are all in the cost of the week. There are no compulsory payments on board at all — what is left is the visa (35 euros) and gratuities, which the operator recommends but does not require. For Egypt this is unusual: most neighbours collect between 150 and 400 euros on board.
Almost every departure leaves Hurghada and returns there, and the standard length is seven nights. A few trips a year reposition the boat between Hurghada and Port Ghalib: those arrive at a different port than they left from, which changes the return flight. The first night is always spent on board at the quay, the last one either on board or in a 4* hotel, and that is decided by the boat’s schedule rather than by the guest.

Sea Serpent's entry bar is softer than the Egyptian norm and varies by route: Fury Shoals 10 logged dives, Daedalus & St. John's 10 dives or Advanced Open Water, North & Safaga 15, the northern routes and Tiran 20, North, Tiran & Dahab 30, and North & Brothers and BDE recommend Advanced Open Water plus 30 dives. This is not the usual «south means AOWD plus 50». A valid certification card and a completed medical form are mandatory. Your own kit is required by the operator's list: dive computer, SMB, snorkel, regulator with alternate air source, torch for night dives, and a weight belt or integrated-weight jacket; spare straps, seals and a service kit are worth packing. The boat specification lists rental and spare equipment as available, but the fleet FAQ warns that rental gear is not normally kept on board and must be ordered at least two weeks before departure. All dives are non-decompression and the legal depth limit in Egypt is 40 m. Night dives are prohibited inside the marine parks. Gloves and knives are banned by law, with fines up to 10,000 Egyptian pounds; feeding fish, walking on coral and throwing anything overboard are also prohibited. Passport details must reach the operator's office at least 8 days before the boat leaves port.
Food and drink
Special diets — vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, allergies — should be flagged in advance, and the operator is happy for guests to bring their own products. Alcohol is sold on board but is not part of the price. The operator prefers cash on board to avoid exchange-rate swings, but accepts Visa and Mastercard; cash is taken in euros, US dollars, pounds sterling and Egyptian pounds.

Northern Reefs & Wrecks
Hurghada to Hurghada, 7 nights. The classic northern Red Sea week. The centrepiece is the Thistlegorm, a British army freighter bombed in 1941 and lying at 18–30 m with trucks, motorcycles and ammunition crates still in her holds — usually two or three dives, one of them at night. Then Ras Mohammed, where Shark Reef and Yolanda draw summer schools of snapper, batfish and barracuda, and the scattered cargo of the wrecked Yolanda lies on the sand. Abu Nuhas holds four ships on one reef: the broken-backed Giannis D, the 1869 Carnatic with her open ribs, the tile-laden Chrisoula K and the Kimon M. Add the Dunraven at Shaab Mahmoud, the deep Rosalie Moller in the Gubal Strait, the coral gardens of Shaab El Erg and Gotta Abu Ramada, and the morays and Napoleons of Careless Reef and Erg Somaya. The operator asks for 20 logged dives — this route works for a first liveaboard.

Hurghada to Hurghada, 7 nights. The northern wrecks plus the four reefs of the Strait of Tiran, the narrow gap between Sinai and Saudi Arabia named after 19th-century British surveyors. Jackson, Woodhouse, Thomas and Gordon sit in a line across the current: sheer walls, gorgonians and soft coral, drift dives along the drop-offs, and the hull of the Loullia stranded on Gordon. Thomas is known for its canyon and the arch below forty metres, Jackson for reef sharks and turtles on the plateau. The first half of the week runs the northern programme: Thistlegorm, Abu Nuhas with the Giannis D and the Carnatic, Ras Mohammed, the Dunraven, the Rosalie Moller and Gubal. Hurghada to Hurghada, 7 nights. The northernmost route in the fleet: after the wrecks and the Strait of Tiran the boat runs up the Gulf of Aqaba to Dahab. Here you get the Blue Hole, a vertical shaft in the reef with a deep arch that divers pass by following the outer wall, and the Canyon, a narrow fissure in the reef plateau. On the way lies Gabr El Bint, reachable only from the water: two turquoise bays, coral towers and almost nobody around. All of it sits on top of the northern programme — Thistlegorm, Ras Mohammed, Abu Nuhas, the Rosalie Moller and the Tiran reefs. The bar here is higher than on the plain northern route: 30 logged dives.

Hurghada to Hurghada, 7 nights. Half the week on the northern wrecks, half on the Brothers Islands 60 km offshore. Big Brother carries two wrecks on one wall: the Numidia of 1901, running from 10 down to 86 m, and the Aida on the north-west slope. The south-east point is where grey reef and whitetip sharks patrol; oceanic whitetips show up in summer and autumn, and thresher sharks at dawn. Small Brother is covered end to end in soft coral and gorgonians. The way back runs through the Safaga area — the Salem Express, Panorama Reef, Abu Kifan. The week opens with the Thistlegorm, Ras Mohammed, Abu Nuhas and Gotta Abu Ramada. The operator recommends Advanced Open Water and 30 logged dives.

Hurghada to Hurghada, 7 nights. The three offshore reefs people come to Egypt for: Brothers, Daedalus and Elphinstone. Big Brother has the Numidia and the Aida on a sheer wall and a shark corner on the southern point; Small Brother is solid soft coral. Daedalus stands 90 km offshore under a mid-19th-century lighthouse: the north point is where hammerheads gather in season, the south is a plateau falling away into the blue with grey reef sharks. Elphinstone is a long north-south reef with walls on both flanks and plateaus at either end — autumn is when oceanic whitetips are most often seen here. All three mean drift diving, depth and open water, entered from the tenders. Quieter stops on the way: Gotta Abu Ramada, the Abu Dabbab reefs, Erg Somaya. The operator recommends Advanced Open Water and 30 logged dives.
