Krishna 3 is the newest vessel in the fleet of Thai operator Divemate Scuba Club: launched in 2025, 26 metres long, 24 guests, 11 cabins and a crew of 10. She is the third hull in the Krishna series, built to the same lines as her predecessors but with a completely reworked interior — pale panelling, concealed lighting, marble-effect bathrooms and individually controlled air conditioning in every cabin.

The boat works the Andaman Sea right through the season and moves between regions with the weather. From late October to May the main programme is the North Andaman: the Similan Islands, Koh Bon, Koh Tachai, the Surin Islands and Richelieu Rock. Richelieu is a limestone pinnacle in open water, Thailand’s best chance of meeting a whale shark; manta rays turn up regularly at Koh Bon, and Koh Tachai offers granite boulders, swim-throughs and schooling barracuda. In May and the shoulder season the boat heads south: Koh Ha with its large underwater cavern, the Hin Daeng and Hin Muang pinnacles and the walls of Koh Phi Phi. In summer she runs to Koh Lipe and the Tarutao islands from Pak Bara Pier. Every programme ends with the Boonsung and T.13 wrecks near the coast.

Departure is from Thap Lamu Pier in Phang Nga or from Asia Marina on Phuket, depending on the route. Airport transfers from Phuket are complimentary, as are transfers from Hat Yai on the Koh Lipe programmes.

Cabins. Master cabin V1 on the main deck is 13 m² with a large double bed and its own bathroom. On the upper deck, level with the saloon and dining area, there are four 9 m² cabins: A1 and A2 with a wide bed, A3 and A4 with twin beds. Along the dive deck on the main deck sit four 9.5 m² cabins B3–B6 with twin beds — headroom is 1.85 m, which taller guests appreciate — plus cabin B2 with a bunk bed. All ten have their own shower and toilet. The eleventh cabin, B7, sleeps four in two bunk beds and uses the shared bathroom opposite; it is the cheapest berth on board.

Common areas: an air-conditioned saloon and dining room on the upper deck with panoramic windows, an open-air dining area under an awning, sun and observation decks and a BBQ area. The dive deck runs the full width of the main deck, with tank racks along both sides, a shaded kitting-up area, rinse tanks, a separate rinse for underwater cameras and outdoor showers. Dives are made from the boat and from the tender.

A few things to know in advance. The marine national park fee is paid separately and depends on the length of the trip: 2,000 THB for three nights, 2,200 THB for five and 2,400 THB for six. A fuel surcharge of 1,000–2,500 THB per trip applies. Nitrox costs extra: 300 THB per tank, or from 3,000 THB as a package. Every route includes night dives and a torch is compulsory for them — 300 THB a day if you do not have your own. Wi-Fi on board is included in the price.

Gear rental on board

The operator publishes no formal minimum certification, but the profiles at Richelieu Rock, Hin Daeng and Hin Muang go deeper than 18 metres, so an Advanced qualification makes the trip more comfortable. Courses can be taken on board for a surcharge. A torch is compulsory on night dives. Dive insurance covering treatment and evacuation is not required by the operator, but we strongly recommend arranging it before you fly.

Bunk

The most compact cabin that still has its own bathroom. A bunk bed — wide below, single above — with its own light and storage nook for each berth. The window brings light and a view, and the dive deck is two steps away. A good choice for anyone travelling alone who would rather not share a bathroom.

Quad

The cheapest accommodation on board — a four-berth cabin with two bunk beds aft on the main deck, next to the dive deck. Air conditioning controlled from inside the cabin, a window and storage space. It is the only cabin on the vessel without its own bathroom: the shower and toilet are shared and sit opposite the cabin. Book a single berth and you share with fellow travellers.

Similans — Koh Bon — Richelieu Rock

The vessel's main programme, running from late October to early May. Departure in the evening from Thap Lamu Pier in Phang Nga province. Five full days bring 15 dives: the Similan Islands, Koh Bon, Koh Tachai, the Surin Islands and three or four visits to Richelieu Rock, four of them at night. The programme includes a landing in the Similans with a walk up to the Sail Rock viewpoint, and finishes on the Boonsung and T.13 wrecks. Christmas and New Year departures run a night longer and include 19 dives. Dive sites may change with the weather.

Koh Bon — Koh Tachai — Richelieu Rock

The short North Andaman programme: three nights and 11 dives. Evening departure from Thap Lamu Pier, then Koh Bon and Koh Tachai with a night dive on the first full day, the Surin Islands and three visits to Richelieu Rock on the second, and the Boonsung and T.13 wrecks on the way back on the third. A good option when there are not enough days for the full programme but you still want the season's headline sites.

South Andaman: Koh Ha, Hin Daeng and Hin Muang

Departure from Asia Marina on Phuket, three to five nights and 11–15 dives. Koh Ha is a cluster of five islets with a large underwater cavern and soft corals; Hin Daeng and Hin Muang are two pinnacles in open water that draw grey reef sharks and mantas. Beyond them lie the walls and grottoes of Koh Phi Phi with a landing on the island, plus Hin Bida and Shark Point with their leopard sharks. The boat runs this route at the start and the end of the season, when the north is still or already unsettled.
