Fatboys stands on Mbambanga island — the only way here from Gizo and the airport is by boat. Six bungalows and a separate Beach House are built at the water’s edge from traditional materials, each with its own veranda facing the sound. One bungalow sits out over the water; the resort says it is the only overwater bungalow in the Solomon Islands.
Fatboys Dive Centre is its own SSI-certified facility, with a training room, courses for beginners and continuing divers, and fully equipped boats. The water is around 28 °C, visibility runs over twenty metres and the currents are steady. The wrecks are the reason to come: the 6,700-ton Japanese ship Toa Maru, sunk in 1943, is over 130 metres long, and the penetration route runs from seven to thirty-seven metres past sake bottles, bullets, lanterns and a one-man tank. Nearby an intact American Hellcat fighter lies in just nine metres of water — divers and snorkellers both reach it.
Beyond the wrecks are the reefs: One Tree Reef with stingrays and reef sharks, Grand Central where the current gathers barracuda and tuna at the drop-off, Kennedy Island with pygmy seahorses, and the macro site Secret Spot with turtles and cuttlefish.
The restaurant and bar are out over the water too. The menu is à la carte, the produce comes from the resort’s own organic garden and from local fishermen, and breakfast is served all day. The resort is moving to solar power and collects rainwater in tanks.
Paddleboards, kayaks, snorkelling gear, a pool table, books and Wi-Fi are free. Paid extras are surf trips to Titiana and Paeloge, fishing, island hopping and a Polycraft boat for hire, for which no licence is needed.
No markup
You pay exactly the rate the resort publishes. On top of that, only the actual bank costs of currency conversion and the international transfer — no commission of ours.
We run the deal
Correspondence with the resort, holding the room, the contract, booking confirmation and all paperwork are on our side. There is nothing for you to arrange yourself.
Card payment
We accept payment by card through Stripe and issue an invoice. The transfer to the resort is our job — you do not have to find a way to pay abroad.
Support all the way
We help you choose the room and dates, work out the dive package, answer questions about flights and gear, and stay in touch until you are home.
The exact amount is confirmed when we hold your booking: it includes the resort's rate at the day's exchange rate plus the actual transfer costs. No hidden fees.
