Alor Divers is a small eco resort on a deserted stretch of shore on Pantar Island in the Alor archipelago. Eight bungalows line a 400-metre sandy beach, and the resort hosts no more than 16 guests at a time. It is a remote place: it takes some effort to get here and, as the owners put it, even more effort to leave — the proportion of returning guests is remarkable.
The Pantar Strait, between the Flores and Savu Seas, is one of the healthiest marine environments in Indonesia by the resort’s reckoning. More than 40 dive sites and almost as many snorkelling spots lie a short distance from the shore: never-ending walls of virgin coral, striking rock formations and vast muck sites. Among the life: rhinopias, blue-ringed octopus, harlequin shrimp, schooling reef fish, hammerhead and thresher sharks, passing whales and nesting turtles in season.
The 900-metre house reef has been protected by the resort for over twenty years. White sand and a stretch of sea grass in the shallows, then a vast coral garden ending in a drop-off where a steep slope and a vertical wall interchange, with rocks and mangrove patches at both ends. Entry and exit are always from the boat, so your kit stays aboard, and the length of the reef makes several separate dives. Night dives happen here only.
The rhythm is unhurried. Two boat outings a day, one dive each, with entry timed to the water rather than the clock and the freedom to change site at the last minute — currents in the strait can be unpredictable, especially around the change of moon phases. Dives are long, which suits photographers and anyone who likes the small stuff. Only certified divers are accepted, and the resort recommends at least 50 logged dives.
The bungalows have no air conditioning by design — the buildings are built to keep the heat out, and the open structure and high thatched roof bring the breeze indoors. From June to September the nights can be surprisingly cool, and blankets are provided. AC can be switched on for a supplement if you want it.
WiFi is in the bungalows only — the shared areas were deliberately left without it, so that people talk at the communal table instead of looking at their phones.
Around the resort are villages that keep their traditions: ikat weaving, palm wine and spirit, fishing with woven bamboo baskets and spearfishing on a single breath through handmade wooden goggles. The resort’s little shop sells local cloth and those goggles at no commission.
No markup
You pay exactly the rate the resort publishes. On top of that, only the actual bank costs of currency conversion and the international transfer — no commission of ours.
We run the deal
Correspondence with the resort, holding the room, the contract, booking confirmation and all paperwork are on our side. There is nothing for you to arrange yourself.
Card payment
We accept payment by card through Stripe and issue an invoice. The transfer to the resort is our job — you do not have to find a way to pay abroad.
Support all the way
We help you choose the room and dates, work out the dive package, answer questions about flights and gear, and stay in touch until you are home.
The exact amount is confirmed when we hold your booking: it includes the resort's rate at the day's exchange rate plus the actual transfer costs. No hidden fees.
Only certified divers are accepted, and the resort recommends at least 50 logged dives — currents in the Pantar Strait can be strong and unpredictable, especially around the change of moon phases. Soft gear — wetsuit, booties, mask and fins — is not rented out, so bring your own. A reef hook and a surface marker buoy are useful.
Special diets — gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian and vegan — are catered for with adequate advance notice. The drinks on offer are beer, cola, sprite, soda water and a local electrolyte drink.
Older children who can swim join the boats heading to snorkelling sites. For the younger ones, extra beds can be added to the parents' bungalow and a nanny arranged on request.

Diving is possible year round, but the resort is closed from the end of December to mid-March — the peak of the wet season, used for maintenance and staff holidays. The Alor archipelago has a relatively dry microclimate for most of the year. From June to September the wind picks up and the nights can be fresh, which is what the blankets are for. All the staff dive in full 5 mm suits — bring a hood and vest if you feel the cold.
Alor is connected to Kupang by a daily Wings Air flight, and Kupang itself has daily connections to all major Indonesian cities. Domestic tickets can be bought with an international card on tiket.com and traveloka.com.
You are met at Alor airport. From there it is a 40-minute car drive and a 20-minute boat ride across the Pantar Strait to the resort. The transfer is free on Wednesdays and Sundays — which is exactly when arrivals and departures happen. Off schedule it costs €100 per trip for a group of up to three.
Depending on the tide you may have to walk a few metres through shallow water at Alor Kecil and on the beach in front of the resort, so shorts and suitable footwear help.
There are ATMs on Alor Island but none on Pantar, so bring enough cash for personal expenses. The resort accepts rupiah, euros and US, Singapore and Australian dollars in cash; cards cannot be processed on site. Sockets are European, 230 V. The only usable mobile network is Telkomsel.
Extras are per person and paid on site.
