Sea Bird is a 42-metre two-masted schooner with a welded steel hull, built in 2000 and rebuilt for Seychelles cruising in 2007. Four Bermuda sails, around 500 sqm of sail area, twin 575 HP Caterpillar engines and 9 knots under power. Nine cabins on the lower deck, all en-suite, each 9–11 square metres. The vessel is licensed for 22 overnight guests and carries a crew of 9 — roughly one crew member per two guests.
Sea Bird has a sister ship, Sea Star: 40 metres, three masts, five sails, 20 guests. Both run the same weekly programme and the operator sells the dates as one pool across the two hulls, so the actual vessel is confirmed at booking. Telling them apart is easy: Sea Bird has two masts, Sea Star has three.
The route covers the inner granitic islands: Mahé, Praslin, La Digue, the Sisters, Curieuse, Cousin, Aride, St Pierre and the Ste Anne Marine Park. Departures are every Saturday from Port Victoria on Mahé, boarding at 10:30, seven nights, disembarkation Saturday at 08:30. The programme changes with the season: from November to April the vessel heads straight for Praslin and La Digue, from May to October it first works along the north coast of Mahé and the Baie Ternay Marine Park. The sails are used on most days — the captain decides by the weather.
Diving is around granite boulder formations that create passages and caves: tropical reef fish, barracuda, jacks, tuna, rays, turtles and reef sharks. Depths around the inner islands are mostly 8–20 metres; the best visibility is March–May and October to early December. A PADI instructor is on board, along with two compressors and 18 cylinders; you can take an Open Water or Advanced Open Water course or make a try dive.
Note: diving is not included in the cruise price and is paid on board separately. Snorkelling, kayaks, SUP and fishing are complimentary including the equipment, which makes the vessel work equally well for divers and for non-diving companions. There is no internet or Wi-Fi on board, and no nitrox.

Diving on board
Diving is not included in the cruise price. Operator rates: first dive of the day 40 EUR, each subsequent dive 20 EUR, plus 15% government tax. Two dives a day on average; packages of 8 or 12 dives per cruise are available. Rental: full set (BCD, regulator, wetsuit) 30 EUR per day, single item 10 EUR per day, plus 15% tax; mask, fins and snorkel are free. There is no nitrox on board. PADI course theory must be completed online before arrival.
Food and drinks
Table water, tea and coffee are free, juice at breakfast. Mineral water, soft drinks, beer, wine and spirits are charged; the bar is self-service, guests mark down what they take and settle at the end of the cruise. Corkage applies to your own alcohol. Tell the galley about special dietary needs in advance — the kitchen is small and severe allergies are best not risked on board.

Inner islands, winter programme (Mahé — Mahé)
November to April. From Port Victoria on Mahé the vessel sails to Round Island off Praslin, then on to the Vallée de Mai UNESCO World Heritage Site with its coco de mer palms, La Digue by bicycle with a stop at the Union Estate plantation, Grande and Petite Soeur for the best snorkelling and diving of the week, the tiny granite islet of Coco, Booby Island, the Aride reserve with the world's largest colonies of three seabird species, and Curieuse with its mangrove forest, giant tortoises and old colony ruins. On the way back — a last stop at Ile Seche and an overnight in the Ste Anne Marine Park. Disembarkation Saturday at 08:30.

May to October. The vessel leaves Port Victoria along the northern headland of Mahé, past Beau Vallon bay and the dramatic north-west coast, to the Baie Ternay Marine Park and Nature Reserve — calm, clear water and good visibility. Then Curieuse with a beach barbecue and giant tortoises, Praslin and the Vallée de Mai, La Digue by bicycle, the granite outcrop of St Pierre, Anse Lazio beach, and the strictly protected Cousin Island reserve with its seabird colonies and endemics. The last night before disembarkation is spent in the Ste Anne Marine Park. Disembarkation Saturday at 08:30.
