Rocio Del Mar is a 34-metre vessel — 110 feet with a 25-foot beam — custom-built for divers in 2008 and working ever since under the Mexican flag out of Puerto Peñasco and San José del Cabo. The hull is approved by both the US and the Mexican Coast Guard, she carries external stabilisers, goes through a full service every June, and her interiors were refreshed in 2025. She takes 20 guests in 10 cabins; sockets are US-style, 110 V.
The year splits into two seasons. From November to May Rocio Del Mar sails from San José del Cabo to the Revillagigedo Archipelago — Mexico’s “Little Galapagos”, a UNESCO World Heritage Site 250 miles offshore. The crossing takes 26–28 hours each way, and then come six full diving days at San Benedicto, Socorro and Roca Partida: oceanic mantas that approach divers of their own accord, schooling hammerheads, Galapagos, silky and tiger sharks, dolphins — and from mid-February to mid-April humpback whales whose song carries underwater.
From July to September the boat works out of Puerto Peñasco in the Sea of Cortez, the sea Cousteau called “the world’s aquarium”. The diving is a different world: sea lion colonies at Isla Ángel de la Guarda, the sheer walls of San Pedro Mártir, fields of black coral, macro with nudibranchs and seahorses, night dives, and snorkelling with whale sharks in Bahía de los Ángeles. In autumn she runs the whole Sea of Cortez end to end — 700 miles over 12 nights on the Explore Baja itinerary.
The layout is practical and unfussy. The main deck holds eight cabins, the dive deck with individual stations, a large camera table with power outlets and compressed air, a dive-deck bathroom and two freshwater showers. The upper deck has two more cabins, a salon with oversized sofas, a television and a computer station, plus a covered patio with wicker furniture. The top deck is the sun deck with loungers, an outdoor kitchen and a BBQ area. Everything indoors is air-conditioned, corridors included.
Straight talk about money: the national park fee is not in the trip price and is paid separately — 3,760 pesos for every day inside the Revillagigedo park (22,560 pesos per trip, about $1,289), and just 240 pesos a day in the Sea of Cortez. Nitrox is $140 per trip, Wi-Fi $50 per device, rental gear $75 an item. Dive insurance with evacuation cover is mandatory — it is checked at boarding, and without it you will not be allowed to dive.

Diving on board
The operator accepts divers from Open Water level, but strongly advises at least 50 logged dives for Revillagigedo: it is open ocean out there, with currents and swell, and good buoyancy matters. Dive accident insurance with evacuation cover is mandatory — certification card and insurance are checked at boarding, and without them you will not be allowed to dive. Park rules at Revillagigedo ban night dives, knives and continuous-beam torches; lights mounted on a camera are permitted. Night dives are part of the Sea of Cortez itineraries. Divemasters guide the group but do not teach skills — for individual attention, book a private guide ($75 a day).

Revillagigedo — the Socorro Islands
The vessel's flagship itinerary: 10 days, 9 nights, six full days of diving. She leaves San José del Cabo, and the crossing to the Revillagigedo Archipelago takes 26–28 hours each way. The plan: Isla San Benedicto — 4 dives, another day there — 3, Isla Socorro — 4, Roca Partida — 3, Socorro again — 4, and San Benedicto — 3. One day at Socorro goes on checking in with the naval station, and that day has three dives. This is diving for big pelagics: oceanic mantas that come to divers of their own accord, schooling hammerheads, Galapagos, silky, whitetip and tiger sharks, dolphins, tuna and wahoo. Humpback whales from mid-February to mid-April, whale sharks in November, December and May. The terrain is rocky with almost no coral — the water is cooler here, 22–26 °C. Season November to May. Night dives are banned inside the park.

8 days, 7 nights, six days of diving. A round trip out of Puerto Peñasco through the central Sea of Cortez. The plan: Isla Ángel de la Guarda — 3 dives and an evening cruise to the sea lions, the same island the next day for 3 dives and a night dive, Isla San Pedro Mártir — 3–4 dives on each of two days, Isla Salsipuedes and Las Ánimas — 3 dives and a night dive, Bahía de los Ángeles — 2 dives and snorkelling with whale sharks. Cousteau called the Sea of Cortez "the world's aquarium": California sea lion colonies, sheer walls of black coral, king and Cortez angelfish, shoals of triggerfish, rays, eels, octopus, and mobulas leaping clear of the surface. For macro shooters there are nudibranchs, blennies and seahorses. The itinerary suits snorkellers and non-diving companions well. Water is 23–26 °C in early July and warms to 26–29 °C by mid-August. Season July to mid-September.

The operator's Explore Baja itinerary: 13 days, 12 nights, 11 days of diving — an expedition along the whole Sea of Cortez, some 700 miles from one end to the other. It runs north to south (Puerto Peñasco to San José del Cabo) or the other way round. Along the way: Isla Ángel de la Guarda with its sea lions, snorkelling with whale sharks at Bahía de los Ángeles, Salsipuedes and Las Ánimas, San Pedro Mártir, San Ildefonso, Isla Coronado, Isla Danzante with a hike to Honeymoon Beach, Espíritu Santo with a night dive among mobula rays and the wrecks Salvatierra and Fang Ming, and Isla Cerralvo, also known as Jacques Cousteau Island. The water is warmer and the fish noticeably more abundant further south; with luck, schooling hammerheads. The operator is upfront that the plan is a guideline only — the route bends to weather and to whatever turns up. Season mid-September to October.
