Adventure is a 30-metre all-aluminium vessel run by Sunrider Tours out of Baja California. Aluminium buys speed and range: Revillagigedo lies a full day of open ocean from Cabo San Lucas, and Adventure covers that crossing faster than most of the fleet around her. She was built in 1977, refitted in 2011 and is certified by the Mexican Coast Guard.
Ten air-conditioned cabins take up to 19 guests, looked after by a crew of six. The cabins have bunk berths, a vanity with hot water, a mirror, individual reading lights and 110 V outlets. None of them are en-suite: the boat has two shared air-conditioned bathrooms — a women’s with three toilets and two showers, and a men’s with two toilets, two urinals and two showers. Cabins and bathrooms are cleaned daily and towels are changed every day.
The main deck holds the saloon with a TV, desk and sofas, the dining area and a full galley; aft there is a platform with tank racks, fresh water and air for rinsing and drying gear, and two wide ladders into the water. The second deck has a large shaded sun deck with loungers and the two cabins with ocean-view windows. Diving runs off 40 aluminium 80 cu ft tanks, two compressors, a nitrox membrane and two inflatable tenders. There are also four double kayaks and Starlink, so the internet works 400 km from shore.
The vessel sails two programmes. Winter and spring go to Revillagigedo: nine days, seven diving days, the giant mantas of The Boiler, hammerheads and the lone rock of Roca Partida. Summer and autumn go to the Sea of Cortez out of La Paz: five days, the sea lions of Los Islotes, the Fang Ming wreck and the El Bajo seamount.

Diving on board
For Revillagigedo the operator requires an Advanced Open Water certification and at least 50 logged dives. On both routes DAN dive insurance, a dive computer, an SMB and a signed liability waiver are mandatory; without proof of certification and insurance you will not be allowed to dive. Nitrox certification is mandatory — the course is available on board for $250. Inside the Revillagigedo marine park night diving is prohibited, as are gloves, knives and torches (a light is only allowed when mounted on a camera).
Food and drinks

Revillagigedo — Socorro (Cabo San Lucas — Cabo San Lucas)
Nine days and eight nights, seven full diving days — 22 to 23 dives. Boarding at Cabo San Lucas, Dock #4, then roughly a day of open ocean to an archipelago 400 km offshore. San Benedicto brings The Boiler, one of the best places on earth to meet giant Pacific manta rays, and El Cañón with hammerhead, Galapagos and tiger sharks. Roca Partida is a lone rock in open water: schools of jacks, tuna, wahoo and barracuda, whitetip and oceanic whitetip sharks, whale sharks. Socorro has Cabo Pearce and Punta Tosca, bottlenose dolphins and silky sharks; from mid-December to mid-April humpback whales pass through and their song carries underwater. The season runs November to May. This is a route for experienced divers: Advanced Open Water and 50 logged dives are required.

Five days and four nights from Marina Aspiona in La Paz, up to 12 dives. Cousteau called the Sea of Cortez the aquarium of the world: a UNESCO site with more than 800 species of fish and marine mammals. The programme takes in El Bajo, the legendary seamount with schooling hammerheads, La Reyna with its manta cleaning stations and young sea lions, drift dives along Las Ánimas, Los Islotes with a colony of over four hundred sea lions, and the 56-metre Fang Ming, sunk in 1999 and now a thriving artificial reef. Night dives bring out octopus, nudibranchs and mobulas. Water runs 24–26 °C in summer and drops to 16–20 °C in winter. The route suits beginners and experienced divers alike.
