Halmahera

Halmahera is the largest island of the Moluccan Archipelago, located in the heart of the Coral Triangle between Lembeh Strait and Raja Ampat. The region features pristine dive sites with enormous biodiversity and diverse geological formations. Here, 450 coral species have been recorded — more than half of the world’s species. In Halmahera’s waters, nearly 700 fish species have been documented, including two species discovered only here. Morotai Island to the north holds sunken aircraft from World War II that have become home to coral reefs. The island has an active volcano, Gamkunoro.
