Tetamanu Village & Sauvage sits in the south of Fakarava, in the old village of Tetamanu — the atoll’s main settlement until the early twentieth century. The first church in the Tuamotus, built of coral in 1874, still stands here. The airport at the north end of the atoll is an hour and a half away by boat.

The hostel is five beach bungalows and one garden bungalow, all looking onto the Tumakohua pass. They are simple: a private toilet and shower with cold water, a double bed and a single bed, and a terrace over the pass.

The bar-restaurant is built out over the water at the very edge of the pass and joined to land by a deck. Underfoot is a natural aquarium of sharks, morays, Napoleon wrasse and goatfish. Lunch and dinner are buffets, and tea, coffee, chocolate and coconut biscuits stand out all day.

The dive centre Tetamanu Dive is inside the hostel. All equipment is furnished and dives are led by an instructor holding the French state qualification BEES 1. Two or three dives a day run with the current, either incoming or outgoing.

The Tumakohua pass is what people come for. The drift starts on the ocean side at 20–30 metres; back inside the pass a cave opens at 28 metres in the right-hand flank, and this is where the wall of five hundred sharks gathers. The dive finishes right in front of the dive centre and the overwater restaurant.

You pay exactly the rate the resort publishes. On top of that, only the actual bank costs of currency conversion and the international transfer — no commission of ours.

We run the deal

Correspondence with the resort, holding the room, the contract, booking confirmation and all paperwork are on our side. There is nothing for you to arrange yourself.

Card payment

We accept payment by card through Stripe and issue an invoice. The transfer to the resort is our job — you do not have to find a way to pay abroad.

The exact amount is confirmed when we hold your booking: it includes the resort's rate at the day's exchange rate plus the actual transfer costs. No hidden fees.

When to go

Getting there

Fakarava is an hour’s flight from Tahiti and forty-five minutes from Rangiroa. The airport is at the north end of the atoll, by the village of Rotoava.

From the airport to Tetamanu guests travel by car and boat — about an hour and a half across the lagoon. Transfers both ways are included in the accommodation rate.

A 30% deposit is taken at booking for direct customers; cash, cheques for residents, traveller’s cheques and credit cards are accepted.
