Blue Lagoon Resort stands on the south-western tip of Weno Island, on one of the most beautiful peninsulas in Micronesia. Towering coconut trees fill the grounds and the sun sets in clear view every evening. On site there is a beauty salon, a massage therapist, the famous Sunset Bar, kayak and SUP rentals, and snorkelling straight from the shore.
The reason to come here is Chuuk Lagoon, known worldwide as Truk. On 17 and 18 February 1944 US forces attacked the Japanese-held islands of the lagoon and sank the freighters anchored there. Thirty years later the resort’s founder Kimiuo Aisek discovered that the hulls had grown over with spectacular coral and had become sunken museums — and the lagoon has been the world’s wreck-diving capital ever since.
Diving is run by Blue Lagoon Dive Shop, Truk’s first and most experienced dive shop, right on the hotel grounds. The guides are Chuukese and know the wrecks extremely well. Air, nitrox, trimix and mixed gas are all available: the shop works with recreational divers as well as TEK and CCR divers. It also carries souvenir T-shirts, caps and other wearables.
Accommodation is 54 rooms, all fully renovated. The resort spent the pandemic downtime on its first overhaul since 1998: every room was redone, the complexes repainted and all the main buildings re-roofed. Each room has two queen beds, a balcony with an ocean view, air conditioning, a drink chiller, a safe, a desk, a table and chairs, a flat-screen TV, a marble shower and twin sinks.
Since August 2023 every room has free fibre-optic WiFi — and so do the dining room, the function rooms, the bar area and most spots on the grounds.
Meals are served in the resort dining room, with a large menu of international and local dishes. Next to it is the Sunset Bar, with happy hour and a view of the sunset.
The resort has its own lagoon islands — Jeep and Fonomu — for a day out or an overnight stay. And it has its own history: Blue Lagoon Dive Shop was founded on 13 November 1973 and was the first dive shop in Micronesia. The Kimiuo Aisek Memorial Museum, opened on 13 September 2014, stands on the resort grounds.

You pay exactly the rate the resort publishes. On top of that, only the actual bank costs of currency conversion and the international transfer — no commission of ours.

Diving
Blue Lagoon Dive Shop was founded on 13 November 1973 and became the first dive shop in Micronesia — and the first owned and operated by a local family without expatriates. Its founder Kimiuo Aisek watched the February 1944 attack as a boy from Tonoas Island, and thirty years later found the coral-covered wrecks and showed them to the world. He was the first Micronesian inducted into the International Scuba Diving Hall of Fame. The Aisek family still runs the business: in 1998 the founder's son Gradvin Aisek bought the Truk Continental Hotel from Continental Airlines, and today grandson Advin Aisek is the general manager. During the renovation the shop greatly expanded its equipment storage areas by the docks. The wrecks named on the site are the Fujikawa Maru, Shinkoko Maru, Kensho Maru, Aikoku Maru and Momokawa Maru. The site publishes no price list for diving or rooms — rates are quoted on request.
Dining
The dining room was refurbished together with the rooms: the interior was redone and repainted. The site publishes no meal rates.
Things to do
The dive shop guides work above water too: they know the overlooks and the spots with war artefacts on Weno, Eten and Tonoas, and they take guests kayaking across the lagoon, out to remote reefs and to secluded beaches. **Jeep Island** lies in the southern lagoon not far from the outer barrier reef: bottlenose dolphins swim near it in summer, it has beautiful coral gardens and a small house to stay overnight. **Fonomu** is east of Tonoas and south-east of Weno: reefs, a dropoff area, sandy beaches, a swimming hole and a couple of guesthouses.

Getting there
The resort stands on the south-western tip of Weno Island in Chuuk (Truk) Lagoon, Federated States of Micronesia. Weno is the main island of the lagoon; Tonoas and Eten lie nearby inside its ring, with Jeep and Fonomu islands further south.
