Our two jeeps came to an abrupt halt at the entrance to Amboseli park, and cameras started clicking away in both vehicles. The graceful giraffe is barely visible among the lush acacias: its horned head pokes out from the bushes, and somewhere between the branches you can just make out its tail. The shot is questionable from an artistic standpoint, but none of us moves an inch until everyone has taken at least ten photos…
