TL

Okeanos Aggressor II is a 36-metre Costa Rican-flagged vessel purpose-built for diving at Cocos Island. Eleven cabins across three decks take up to 22 guests, looked after by a crew of 10. The yacht works a single route all year round: departure from Puntarenas, a 36-hour open-ocean crossing, and then ten days at the most famous “shark island” on the planet.

Cocos is a UNESCO World Heritage site 550 km off the mainland, reachable only by a vessel you sleep aboard. Diving is done from motor pangas on seamounts: Bajo Alcyone, Dirty Rock, Manuelita, Dos Amigos, Bird Island, Lone Stone. The main spectacle is schooling hammerheads gathering above the pinnacles by the hundred, alongside whitetip reef sharks, mantas, tuna and dolphins, with whale sharks passing through from May to November. Currents are strong and working depths are 16–33 m — this is a destination for experienced divers with drift-diving experience and an advanced certification.

The dive deck is built for a full group: a personal locker for every diver, a shaded kitting-up area, rinse hoses, a separate rinse tank for underwater cameras, and a camera table with charging stations and computers for editing images. Tanks are 80 cubic feet with both K and DIN valves, weights included. Three to four dives a day are offered; there is no night diving at Cocos under park rules.

The main deck holds the air-conditioned salon and restaurant: buffet breakfast and lunch, chef-prepared dinner. The upper deck has a bar with a grill, a shaded cocktail area and sun loungers. Every cabin has individually controlled air conditioning, a private bathroom with shower, a television, a hairdryer and daily housekeeping. Besides the diving, the programme includes going ashore: a hike through the island’s jungle and a swim in its waterfalls.
