All Star Aqua Cat is a 31-metre catamaran run by All Star Liveaboards, who have been working the Bahamas since 1979. She was purpose-built for diving in 2001 and refitted in 2015. A 35-foot (10.7 m) beam keeps her steady under way: the catamaran hull barely rolls, so the runs between dive sites are calm. Readers of Scuba Diving magazine voted the Aqua Cat the best liveaboard in the world five years running.
All eleven cabins sit on the main deck and are among the roomiest in the liveaboard fleet. Eight have two large windows and an ocean view; cabin 11 is an inside cabin with bunk beds and a skylight instead of windows. Every cabin has a private bathroom with shower and hairdryer, individually controlled air conditioning and oversized 80-inch berths. Cabins 1 and 2 take up to four guests, which suits families and groups of friends. At double occupancy the boat carries 22 guests; with triple and quad occupancy the maximum is 30.
The dive deck covers about 900 sq ft, with an assigned station for every guest, a set-up area, rinse tanks, a separate rinse for underwater cameras, charging stations, and a shower and toilet right on deck. All diving is done from the vessel herself, with two inflatables standing by for safety. Tanks in 80, 100 and 63 cubic feet plus weightbelts are included; nitrox costs extra.
Inside there is an air-conditioned salon with sofas, a dining area, an entertainment system and a photo and video editing station. The alfresco deck has hammocks and a BBQ, and the top deck carries a sundeck with loungers and a bar. Wi-Fi is free. All drinks are included, beer, wine, rum and cocktails among them.
Sea Dog, an 8.5-metre jet-drive launch, runs guests ashore every day: deserted beaches, mangrove creeks, guided island walks, the iguanas of Allans Cay and the famous swimming pigs. Kayaks, paddleboards, a wakeboard and a kneeboard are all on board and all included. There is plenty for non-divers to do.

You pay the rate the operator publishes. The only thing added on top is the actual payment processing cost — no fee of ours.

Diving on board
A dive computer is mandatory for every diver — bring your own or rent one for $50 a trip. Diving is mostly self-guided in buddy pairs, with a dive instructor in the water on every dive. Rebreathers are not permitted on board, a restriction of the vessel's insurance. Night dives require two light sources. Solo diving requires a solo diver certification and the matching gear. Minimum age for individual bookings is 10.
Food and drinks
Friday dinner ashore in Nassau is at your own expense: the boat is already alongside that evening. Tell us about any dietary requirements when booking and the chef will work around them.

The Best of the Bahamas (Nassau — Nassau)
Weekly Saturday departures from Nassau, 7 nights. The boat heads for the Exuma Cays — a chain of hundreds of all but uninhabited islands that only liveaboards reach — and in the right weather carries on to Eleuthera. More than 100 dive sites and up to 26 dives a week: walls that start as shallow as 40 feet, high-speed drifts through the cuts between the cays, blue holes, reefs of sponges and sea fans, the wreck of the Austin Smith with its goliath groupers, and the celebrated Washing Machine in the tidal flow. Once a trip there is a passive Caribbean reef shark feed, and reef and nurse sharks turn up on most sites. Shore excursions run daily: empty beaches, mangrove creeks, guided walks, iguanas, swimming pigs and the Exuma Land and Sea Park. Suits divers of any level; a dive computer is mandatory.
