Derawan — Sangalaki

Indonesia · 7–9 nights
Manta rays at Sangalaki Island

A route through the islands of the Berau Archipelago off the coast of East Kalimantan. The safari starts from Tarakan port and passes through four unique islands: Derawan with walls and underwater caves, Maratua with its lagoon and reef fringe, Kakaban with its stingless jellyfish lake, and Sangalaki — a marine park where schools of manta rays gather. At Derawan, divers explore walls and caves at 5–20 meters depth, home to nudibranchs and seahorses. Maratua offers encounters with tuna, mackerel, barracudas, and mantas at depths up to 30 meters. A unique experience — snorkeling in Kakaban Lake, home to four species of stingless jellyfish that evolved in isolation from the ocean. Sangalaki is one of the world’s best sites for manta ray encounters over coral gardens.
