Banco Chinchorro — the largest coral atoll in the Northern Hemisphere, located 30 km off the southern coast of Quintana Roo, Mexico. The biosphere reserve covers about 800 square kilometers and includes pristine coral reefs, mangroves, and sea grass beds.
The atoll is famous for encounters with American crocodiles in the mangroves — a unique diving experience available only here. Wreck diving is another highlight, with numerous vessels lost on the shallow reef over centuries. The eastern wall drops steeply into the depths with sponges, gorgonians, and pelagic encounters. Limited visitor numbers ensure pristine conditions.
