5 room types · more than 40 sites, including Rainbow Reef dive sites · house reef
Paradise Taveuni sits on the south-west of Taveuni — Fiji’s Garden Island — on five acres of elevated oceanfront land. It looks out over the Somosomo Strait and the sunset, with hammocks strung between the lawns and sun loungers set out along the edge. The resort is deliberately small: 16 rooms in five categories, a maximum of 32–36 guests at any one time.
The reason to come is Rainbow Reef — thirty-two kilometres of reef in the strait between Taveuni and Vanua Levu, twenty to thirty minutes from the jetty. Fiji is known as the soft coral capital of the world, and the reef system’s signature dive is the Great White Wall: a coral-encrusted swim- through leads out onto a sheer wall covered entirely in white soft coral, between 15 and 65 metres down. In all there are more than forty sites, sorted into three levels — from calm eighteen-metre dives to current and exposed surface conditions.
The PADI 5 Star dive centre belongs to the resort and stands on its grounds. There are two boats: the 15-metre Taveuni Explorer with galley and bathroom for 26 divers, and Paradise Princess for 12. The dive team carries your gear to the boat and back, and there is an air-conditioned camera room for underwater photographers. Guests on a dive package get free, unlimited shore diving from 7am to 5pm — nobody else on Taveuni offers that.
The resort is run by Allan Gortan, an Australian and a chef of forty years’ standing, who bought the old Suzies Plantation hostel, rebuilt it and opened Paradise in 2008. In 2016 Cyclone Winston destroyed the resort in five hours; it was rebuilt in three months, and every room has had air conditioning ever since, with a bigger dive centre and spa.
Out of the water the island has the Bouma waterfalls, the natural Waitavala rock waterslide, a southern blowhole that throws seawater fifty metres into the air, the 180th meridian line, the Holy Cross church of 1907, and Fiji nights with a lovo earth oven, meke dancing and a kava ceremony.
No markup
You pay exactly the rate the resort publishes. On top of that, only the actual bank costs of currency conversion and the international transfer — no commission of ours.
We run the deal
Correspondence with the resort, holding the room, the contract, booking confirmation and all paperwork are on our side. There is nothing for you to arrange yourself.
Card payment
We accept payment by card through Stripe and issue an invoice. The transfer to the resort is our job — you do not have to find a way to pay abroad.
Support all the way
We help you choose the room and dates, work out the dive package, answer questions about flights and gear, and stay in touch until you are home.
The exact amount is confirmed when we hold your booking: it includes the resort's rate at the day's exchange rate plus the actual transfer costs. No hidden fees.
Diving is sold as a package: two boat dives on a dive day plus unlimited shore diving. Sites are picked around guests' requests, and the Great White Wall is for advanced divers only — depth, current and a narrow swim-through. Fijian law does not allow solo diving. Unused dives are non-refundable and non-transferable. All Rainbow Reef trips carry a fuel surcharge of FJ$25 per person.
The standard plan is a one-course breakfast, one-course lunch and two-course dinner. For US$25 a day it becomes the divers' plan: one course at breakfast, two at lunch and three at dinner. Once a week there is a Fiji night with a four-course feast from the earth oven, meke dancing and a kava ceremony — included on stays of five nights or more.
Bure with ocean views (Orchid, Pandanus, Frangipani)
from US$755 per person for 3 nights without diving
View: Gardens and partial ocean view, private sundeck
Beds: King bed
Spacious island-style bures: a bedroom with a king bed, a separate lounge area, a refrigerator and a kettle. The tropical-style bathroom has a walk-in shower, and there is a private outdoor garden shower as well. The sundeck comes with a daybed, table and chairs. Frangipani sits partly behind the main resort building — its ocean view is partial, but the heart of the resort is two steps away.
Room steps from the water (Triton, Nautilus, Cowrie, Wai, Coral, Reef)
from US$950 per person for 3 nights without diving
View: Ocean, private patio
Beds: King bed; two of the rooms split into twin beds
Six duplex-style rooms sharing walls in pairs, all a few steps from the water. Triton, Nautilus and Cowrie are on the north side by the dive centre; Wai, Coral and Reef on the south. Inside is a spacious bedroom, lounge seating, a refrigerator and kettle, a walk-in shower and a private outdoor garden shower. Two of the six convert to twin beds — handy if you are travelling with a friend.
Bure by the water (Papaya, Niu)
from US$1,220 per person for 3 nights without diving
View: Ocean, private sundeck
Beds: King bed
The two most spacious bures after the luxury pair: a private bedroom with a king bed, a separate lounge, a refrigerator and kettle. The tropical-style bathroom has a walk-in shower, with an outdoor garden shower alongside. The sundeck faces the ocean and has a daybed, table and chairs.
Bure with a private plunge pool (Hibiscus, Honeymoon)
from US$1,400 per person for 3 nights without diving
View: Panoramic ocean, oversized sundeck
Beds: Fixed king bed, couples only
The two best rooms at the resort. A spacious bedroom, a separate lounge, a walk-in shower and an outdoor garden shower. The point of them is the oversized oceanfront sundeck: a private plunge pool, a daybed, lounge seating and an outdoor dining area. They are built for couples only — the king bed does not split into twins and no extra beds can be added.
Two-bedroom bure (Mokosoi, Vudi, Mango)
from US$1,055 per person for 3 nights without diving
View: Gardens and partial ocean view, private sundeck
Beds: King bed in the first bedroom; king or two twins in the second
The option for a family or a group: two separate bedrooms, each with its own air conditioning, sharing one bathroom with a walk-in shower. In Mango a passageway separates the bedrooms; in Mokosoi and Vudi each has its own door. There is a refrigerator, a kettle, an outdoor garden shower and a private sundeck with a daybed and table.

Diving goes on all year and the water stays warm. The drier season runs roughly May to October, and those months are cooler in the evenings, so a light sweater is worth having. Humpback whales pass the island with their new calves **from June to September** — they are seen from the dive boat and from the resort's oceanfront. Mantas and pilot whales turn up on the way to the reef in any month: the boat stops so you can swim with them.
Fly internationally into Nadi (NAN), then take a domestic flight to Taveuni (TVU) — about an hour over reefs and islands. Fiji Airways flies twice daily, and Northern Air and Island Hoppers also serve the island. At Nadi the domestic terminal is a five-minute walk from international arrivals; domestic baggage limits are enforced strictly.
A resort driver meets you at Taveuni airport, and the drive takes about an hour: half an hour of sealed road, half an hour unsealed. Return ground transfers are included in the package. You can skip the unsealed stretch by water — the resort’s speedboat costs US$300 return for one or two guests and takes half an hour along the coast.
There is a sea route too: an overnight ferry from Suva on Mondays and Fridays, plus ferries from neighbouring Vanua Levu that run twice daily from Natuvu wharf. The resort can send its own fast boat to Natuvu: FJ$400 for a single passenger, FJ$200 per person for two or more.
Check-in is from 2pm and check-out by 10am; a late check-out until 2pm costs half a day’s room rate. The resort takes Fijian, US, Australian and New Zealand dollars, euros and pounds, and cards with a 3% fee. Tips are pooled for the staff fund rather than given individually. There are no TVs, phones or radios in the rooms; power is solar with generator backup, so a torch is handy for walking at night.
Extras are per person and paid on site.
