The White Sea is one of the best diving destinations in Russia. Its cold, dark waters conceal a surprisingly vivid and extraordinary world, filled with creatures you would never encounter in warm tropical seas.
An underwater photographer and freediver brings this world to life in remarkable detail through their images.

The photographer has been pursuing underwater hunting and photography since 1998. Since 2005, they have worked on the White Sea at the Polar Circle tourism center — first as a diving instructor, then as dive director.

The White Sea is a unique Arctic ecosystem. Water temperatures drop to -1.8°C in winter and climb only to +10–15°C at the surface in summer. Yet it is precisely these harsh conditions that give rise to an extraordinary richness of marine life.

Beneath the surface you can encounter anemones in breathtaking colours, sea stars, nudibranchs, king crabs, wolffish, and a host of other residents. Visibility in the White Sea can reach 20–30 metres, making underwater photography an especially rewarding pursuit.
