Marsa Shagra Village is the oldest of the three Red Sea Diving Safari villages, founded in 1990 by Hossam Helmy. It sits on a natural bay 20 km north of Marsa Alam town, on a sandy shore backed by one of the finest house reefs in the southern Red Sea.

This is a camp rather than a hotel — “the eco-diving adventure”, as the owners call it. Accommodation runs the full range: from the royal tents a few metres from the water, the ones the village started with, up to the Superior Deluxe chalets with air conditioning, a minibar and a terrace overlooking the reef entrance. There are 130 rooms in six categories, and nearly all of them have a guaranteed sea view.

The house reef is the point of the place. It runs two kilometres north and south and meets in the middle at a sandy-bottomed bay you walk into straight from the beach. Inside the bay it is shallow, one to ten metres; outside, the walls drop to 40–50. Certified divers dive unguided and off any schedule, within the limits of their certification, after one compulsory orientation dive on arrival day. Zodiacs run from the jetty all through daylight hours: go out by boat and swim back, or the other way round. Solo diving is even allowed on the house reef — with the right certification and clearance from the base leader.

The dive centre is a PADI 5* Resort and the first TDI facility in the southern Red Sea: Discover Scuba through instructor level, technical diving to Extended Range and CCR, AIDA freediving. The BARO Medical hyperbaric centre next to the village has a doctor on call around the clock.

From the bay it is half an hour by speedboat to Elphinstone, the offshore reef with sheer walls and oceanic whitetips, and a short minibus ride to Abu Dabab with its dugongs and green turtles.

Beyond diving there is freediving with an AIDA instructor, free snorkelling on the house reef, a yoga shala at sunrise and sunset, the Bawadi Bedouin lounge on the sand, a pizza oven and the Seekers eco-learning kids centre.

You pay exactly the rate the resort publishes. On top of that, only the actual bank costs of currency conversion and the international transfer — no commission of ours.

We run the deal

Correspondence with the resort, holding the room, the contract, booking confirmation and all paperwork are on our side. There is nothing for you to arrange yourself.

We accept payment by card through Stripe and issue an invoice. The transfer to the resort is our job — you do not have to find a way to pay abroad.

The house reef runs 2 km north and south and meets in a sandy bay with a walk-in entry from the beach. Inside the bay it is 1 to 10 metres deep, outside the walls drop to 40–50. Diving is sold by the day rather than by the dive: a day of unlimited diving or a five-day package. An alternate air source, an SMB and a computer are compulsory; bring thick-soled booties, all entries are from the shore. Below 30 metres you need CMAS 3\*, PADI Deep Diver or direct instructor supervision, and the recreational limit is 40 metres under Egyptian law. Every diver pays a compulsory €7 towards the hyperbaric chamber support programme.

Snorkelling on the house reef is free for village guests; gear is available to rent. Swimming over the reef top is not allowed — only in the bay and along the wall, that is part of the environmental rules. Snorkelling with weights is prohibited except for certified freedivers, and you sign out on the board before entering the water.

Two chalets with a larger terrace and a higher standard of finish, the closest of all to the restaurant, dive centre and reception. Mountains on one side, the Red Sea on the other — you get both sunrise and sunset from the terrace.

Simple domed rooms set slightly back from the shoreline: two single beds, a bedside table with a lamp, a wardrobe and a fan. Bathrooms are communal and shower towels are provided. Every hut has an uninterrupted sea view.

Rates in euro per person per night, full board. High season runs March to December, low season is January and February. The village publishes identical rates for summer 2026, winter 2026/27 and summer 2027; winter adds Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve supplements. "Single" is the rate for one person in a room. Children under 5 stay free in their parents' room, 6 to 15 get 50% off in their parents' room. Stays of two weeks or more get €5 off per day from week two, four weeks or more get 30% off accommodation and diving.

When to go

Best time: Year-round; high season March to December, low season January and February
Water temperature: around 28 °C in summer, 22–24 °C in winter

The village is open all year. Winter water is cooler and calls for a thicker suit; summer in Marsa Alam is hot and dry. Check-in from 14:00, check-out by 12:00; arrival before midnight counts as a full night, midnight to 10:00 as half. Cash in euro is easiest on site: Visa and Mastercard carry a 3% bank fee and are charged in Egyptian pounds at the daily rate.

Getting there

The nearest airport is Marsa Alam (RMF), 40 km north, about half an hour by road. From Hurghada (HRG) it is 253 km, roughly three hours; Luxor takes longer. The driver meets guests outside the terminal building; transfers are charged separately and depend on group size — €64 one way from Marsa Alam for a single traveller, €22–25 per person for a group.

The village sits 20 km north of Marsa Alam town, within easy reach of Wadi El Gemal National Park, the Marsa Nayzak natural pool, Qulaan lagoon and the beaches of Sharm el Luli and Ras Hankorab.

On site there is an ATM with currency exchange and the BARO Medical hyperbaric centre with a doctor on call around the clock. Every diver pays €7 towards the chamber support programme, which covers one treatment within two weeks of the arrival date.
