Marsa Nakari is the second Red Sea Diving Safari village, 18 km south of Marsa Alam town. It is smaller and quieter than neighbouring Marsa Shagra: the camp takes no more than 120 guests at a time, and that is a deliberate choice — the load on the house reef is capped by what the reef itself can carry.

The bay has history. A Roman port called Nechesia stood here in antiquity, and its ruins still lie on the hill at the southern end of the bay. That is where the name comes from.

The house reef starts right at the waterline and runs north and south of a wide, easy entry. The northern side is hard coral, fish and an “anemone city”; the southern side has pinnacles and swim-throughs. The macro life is unusually rich — nudibranchs, shrimps, velvetfish, ghost pipefish, seamoths. Turtles and dolphins are regular visitors, and a school of Indian mackerel lives inside the bay year-round. There are six dive profiles: from the shore, by zodiac, or a combination. Certified divers dive unguided and off any schedule, and solo diving is permitted on the house reef with clearance from the base leader.

The signature day trip is Shaab Samadai, the Dolphin House: a protected marine reserve just twenty minutes from Nakari by speedboat. Spinner dolphins rest in the lagoon and access is tightly regulated. Further down the coast lie the wreck of the Hamada at Abu Ghusoun and the Wadi el Gemal National Park, more than 7,450 km² of sea and desert.

Nakari was the first PADI IDC Resort in the region: a Course Director works on site year-round, taking divers from Discover Scuba all the way to instructor, alongside TDI technical training and AIDA freediving. For underwater photographers there is a dedicated camera room — twelve workstations with lights, power, lockers and air conditioning, right next to the dive shade.

Accommodation comes in four categories, from royal tents on the sand to the domed Sea Front chalets at the water’s edge.

You pay exactly the rate the resort publishes. On top of that, only the actual bank costs of currency conversion and the international transfer — no commission of ours.

We run the deal

Correspondence with the resort, holding the room, the contract, booking confirmation and all paperwork are on our side. There is nothing for you to arrange yourself.

Card payment

We accept payment by card through Stripe and issue an invoice. The transfer to the resort is our job — you do not have to find a way to pay abroad.

The coral reef begins right at the beach and runs north and south of the entry. The northern side is hard coral and an "anemone city"; the southern side has pinnacles and swim-throughs. Diving is sold by the day rather than by the dive: a day of unlimited diving, or a five-day package. Nakari also sells a package that includes six guided excursion dives — in Shagra that one is only available through agents. An alternate air source, an SMB and a computer are compulsory, and thick-soled boots are worth bringing, since entries are from the shore. Below 30 m you need CMAS 3\*, PADI Deep Diver or an instructor alongside. Every diver pays a compulsory €7 towards the chamber support programme; the chamber itself is in Marsa Shagra.

Diet drinks, juices, latte and cappuccino, beer and snacks are charged to the room and settled on departure. Guests are given a water bottle to refill from the coolers around the site — the camp is cutting down on single-use plastic. The cafeteria also sells souvenirs, travel essentials and Egyptian natural cosmetics.

Snorkelling on the house reef is free for village guests. Shaab Samadai is run under marine-reserve rules: life jackets are compulsory in the water and part of the lagoon is closed so the dolphins can rest. Wadi el Gemal National Park covers more than 7,450 km² of sea and desert — mangroves, islands with bird and turtle nesting grounds, Ptolemaic and Roman ruins, gazelles, ibexes and camels.

Prices in euro per person per night, full board. High season runs March to December, low season is January and February. In winter there are festive dinner supplements: €22 on 24 December, €28 on 31 December, €44 for both. "Single" is the rate for one person in the room. Children under 5 stay free in their parents' room, 6 to 15 get 50% off in the same room. Triple occupancy in a Royal Tent or Deluxe Chalet takes €5 per person per day off. Stays of two weeks or more get €5 a day off from the second week; four weeks or more get 30% off accommodation and diving.

When to go

Water temperature: around 28 °C in summer, 22–24 °C in winter

The village is open year-round. Winter water is cooler and calls for a thicker suit; summer in Marsa Alam is hot and dry. Check-in is from 14:00, check-out by 12:00; arrival before midnight counts as a full night, from midnight to 10:00 as half. Cash euro is the easiest way to settle: card payments carry a 3% bank charge and are billed in Egyptian pounds at the day's rate.

Getting there

The nearest airport is Marsa Alam (RMF), 78 km away, about an hour by road. From Hurghada (HRG) it is 291 km, roughly four hours. A driver meets guests at the terminal exit; the transfer is paid separately and depends on the number of passengers: €80 one way from Marsa Alam if you travel alone, €25–31 if there is a group. Neighbouring Marsa Shagra costs from €17, Wadi Lahami from €22.

The village sits 18 km south of Marsa Alam town. Wadi el Gemal National Park, the Qulaan lagoon, the Sharm el Luli and Hankorab beaches and the natural pool of Marsa Nayzak are all close by.

There is internet, but the terms are worth checking at reception. There is an ATM next to the village. The BARO Medical recompression chamber is in Marsa Shagra, half an hour away; every diver pays €7 towards its support programme.
